Challah bread

Challah is the braided bread traditionally eaten on Shabbat and holidays. Its braided form symbolizes love and unity, and two loaves are placed on the Shabbat table to represent the double portion of manna that fell on Fridays in the desert. The act of separating a piece of dough (also called challah) is one of the three mitzvot specifically designated for women.
