Hebrew Gematria Calculator

Gematria is the ancient Jewish practice of assigning numerical values to Hebrew letters. Every word and name carries a hidden number — discover yours and find Torah verses that share it.

What is Gematria?

Gematria (גימטריא) is a traditional Jewish system of numerology that assigns a numerical value to each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. By summing the values of the letters in a word or name, one can discover hidden connections between words that share the same numerical value.

In the standard system (Mispar Hechrachi), the first nine letters (Alef through Tet) represent 1-9, the next nine (Yod through Tsade) represent 10-90, and the final four (Qof through Tav) represent 100-400. For example, the name David (דוד) has a gematria of 14 (Dalet=4 + Vav=6 + Dalet=4).

Rabbis and scholars throughout history have used gematria to uncover deeper meanings in the Torah, finding connections between words, phrases, and concepts that share numerical values. It remains a beloved part of Jewish learning and mystical tradition.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter any name or word — in English or Hebrew — and the calculator will instantly compute its gematria value. You'll see a letter-by-letter breakdown showing how the value is calculated. The calculator also searches the entire Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) for verses containing words with the same gematria value, revealing surprising Torah connections to your name.

When you enter an English name, the calculator automatically transliterates it to Hebrew to compute the Hebrew gematria. It also shows the English ordinal gematria (A=1, B=2, ... Z=26) as a secondary value.
