Shabbat is the weekly day of rest observed from Friday sunset to Saturday nightfall, considered the most important Jewish holiday—it appears in the Ten Commandments. In Israel, public transportation stops, businesses close, and families gather for festive meals with candle lighting, wine, and challah. The Talmud describes Shabbat as a taste of the world to come.
