About “Feast of Tabernacles” in Hebrew
Sukkot is an autumn harvest festival during which Jews build temporary outdoor shelters (sukkot) and eat, entertain, and sometimes sleep in them for seven days. This commemorates the fragile huts the Israelites lived in during their forty years of wandering in the desert. The four species—etrog (citron), lulav (palm), hadas (myrtle), and arava (willow)—are ceremonially waved during prayers.
