Divine Presence

The Shekhinah represents God's immanent presence in the world and is often described in feminine terms, making it unique in Jewish theology. Tradition teaches that the Shekhinah rests wherever people study Torah, do acts of kindness, or gather in prayer. The Shekhinah is said to have accompanied the Jewish people into exile and to dwell at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
