Torah Portion of the Week

Vayechi ויחי

Genesis 47:28–50:26

Parshat Vayechi — the final parsha of Genesis — recounts Jacob's last seventeen years in Egypt. On his deathbed, Jacob blesses Joseph's sons Ephraim and Manasseh, delivers prophetic blessings to each of his twelve sons, and requests burial in the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron. After Jacob's death, Joseph reassures his fearful brothers and dies at 110, making them swear to carry his bones to the Promised Land.
