About “Repentance” in Hebrew

Teshuvah literally means 'return,' reflecting the Jewish belief that repentance is not about self-punishment but about returning to one's true, good nature and to closeness with God. The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are known as the Days of Teshuvah. Maimonides outlined a process of teshuvah that includes recognizing the wrong, feeling genuine remorse, and resolving not to repeat it.
