Founder of the Kaliver Chassidic dynasty in Hungary (c.1744-1821). According to tradition, Rav Leib Sarah's received permission to raise him and brought him to Rav Shmelke of Nikolsburg. He also learned Chassidus from Rav Elimelech of Lizhensk. For forty years, he pioneered the spread of Chassidus throughout Hungary from Kalev, and is regarded as the first Admor to take up permanent residence in Hungary. He is remembered as "the sweet singer of Yisrael" and is famed for his niggunim.
