The Month of Shevat (שְׁבָט)
Shevat is the month of renewal and the first stirrings of spring. On the 15th of Shevat (Tu BiShvat), we celebrate the New Year for Trees. Though the ground may still appear barren in Israel, the sap has begun to rise in the trees — a powerful metaphor for hidden growth and potential. It is customary to eat fruits of the Land of Israel on Tu BiShvat, including the seven species: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates.
